Some jobs stand out immediately while others mainly take place behind the scenes. For the past 25 years, Cécile has helped ensure that Elia meets its tax obligations. Her role within the Tax department as an officer may not be highly visible, but it is essential. Behind every tax, levy or surcharge lies a file that needs to be checked, analysed and carefully monitored.
When Cécile started, computers still used floppy disks and some messages were sent by telex. Today, she works with digital platforms, SAP and even artificial intelligence. Yet one thing has remained unchanged all these years: the importance of accuracy.
“Figures don’t just appear out of nowhere. You need to understand where they come from, verify the data and provide a reliable answer.”

That requires not only expertise, but also patience, a strong sense of responsibility and a keen eye for detail. Because even a small mistake can have significant financial or administrative consequences.
Throughout her career, Cécile has seen Elia evolve from a more family-oriented organisation into a company that plays a key role in the energy transition. She still feels the societal impact every single day.

She sums up a quarter century of Elia in a single word: network. Not only the high-voltage grid that powers Belgium, but also the human network of colleagues, expertise and collaboration that makes it all possible.
